About Us

An American Aquaculture Story in Progress

SalmoGen is a collaborate American broodstock undertaking between investors, strategic partners, academia, and government resources. The company was founded in late 2022, and the first stocking material was also received in late 2022.

The company was founded on a mission to establish a US commercial egg supplier to enable industry long-term growth in the US regulatory and risk environment. This need has been a discussion in the US market for years. The company will, however, also offer product beyond the US.

Investment partners behind the company are Cuna Del Mar, Builders Initiative, The Penobscot Indian Nation, and Xcelerate Aqua. There is significant aquaculture expertise in this group, that also includes Cuna Del Mar’s subsidiaries Center for Aquaculture Technologies and Innovasea.

The broodstock farm is being developed on Indian Island, Maine which is on the Penobscot Indian Nation’s land. The location is close to University of Maine which is the leading academic aquaculture resource in Maine.

The broodstock populations are currently developing at two partner locations with scheduled transfer to the company’s facility in 2025. We have seen very low mortalities and healthy fish to date.

The company also has an advisory board consisting of leading academics and governmental experts. Yoni Zohar of University of Maryland is chair of the company’s advisory board.

Social and Environmental Governance

SalmoGen and its investors adhere to high social and environmental standards. The company is an equal opportunity employer and also welcomes tribal candidates for employment. Our broodstock farm in Maine is placed on land has been developed to not have any impacts on its surrounding environment or ecosystems. High bio-security levels, fish welfare, advanced discharge treatment technology are cornerstones in the company’s commitment to ecosystem protection.
